Michigan Youth Employment Permit Portal Launches

BY: Lorelei Abernathy, Esq. | 10/09/26

Employers in Michigan now have access to a centralized portal for completing youth employment permits, just in time for hiring extra staff for the holiday season. Launched on October 2, the Youth Employment Permit Portal (YEPP) replaces the old method of obtaining permits through local school districts or nonpublic schools.

Employers that wish to hire employees under 18 years old must first register with the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO). To access the portal, employers create an account through MiLogin. Employers that already have an account can search for YEPP and add it to their applications. YEPP employers must use YEPP to notify the LEO when a minor’s employment ends.

Minor employees will also use the portal to complete their permit process. To provide these applicants and new employees with more information, direct them to the LEO’s website for Youth Employment.
