Best Practices for Handling the ERC
The Employee Retention Credit (ERC) was created in March 2020 with the passing of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act to help small employers retain their employees through the economic downturn caused by the pandemic by providing funds via a payroll tax credit. Payroll departments learned quickly how to apply this credit and, even today, best practices using the ERC still need to be followed.
