What is Money Matters?
Money Matters is a volunteer initiative created by PayrollOrg (formerly the American Payroll Association and Global Payroll Management Institute) to equip high school students with essential money management skills. The program focuses on key financial concepts like budgeting, saving, responsible spending, and understanding paychecks. The aim is to empower teens and young adults with the knowledge and confidence to make informed financial decisions, avoid debt, and build long-term financial independence as they transition into adulthood and enter the workforce.

Why Volunteer?
Volunteering for Money Matters is a meaningful way to make a lasting impact on the financial future of young people. By sharing your knowledge and experience, you help high school students develop critical money management skills they’ll carry into adulthood. Whether it’s teaching them how to budget, save, or understand their paychecks, your guidance will empower them to make informed decisions, avoid debt, and achieve financial independence.
All Money Matters volunteers will receive one RCH and a citation of recognition for their efforts. Additionally, all local chapter members who volunteer are counted towards the National Education Champion Regional Contest.
How Do I Volunteer?
Volunteering is easy! Just head to the Money Matters webpage on the NPW website and complete the volunteer form. Once you submit the volunteer form, you will be able to access the easy-to-use curriculum and custom teaching materials to help you have a successful event. The digital versions of the lesson plan are designed to be taught either in person or virtually from the comfort of your own desk. All you have to do next is decide where and when you would like to present the program. Begin by contacting local high schools, trade schools, youth groups and more to reserve your spot.

Remember- You can present as a group or as an individual. If presenting as a group, it’s vital that each member participating completes a separate volunteer form to receive recognition from PayrollOrg.
Teaching topics include:
- How to fill out the Form W-4
- Understanding why and how payroll taxes are withheld from paychecks
- How paychecks are calculated
- The pros and cons of various payment methods available

Preparing for Year End Meeting Guidelines
PAYO's Education Team has confirmed that all PAYO chapters may host their own Preparing for Year-End meetings either before September 15, 2026, or anytime in December 2026. This timing helps avoid scheduling conflicts with PAYO National-sponsored events while maximizing participation in both chapter and national programs.
