BY: Jyme Mariani, Esq. | 12/11/23

The National Child Support Engagement Association (NCSEA), in which PayrollOrg is a member, released a free podcast “Independent Contractors: An Employer Focused Conversation.” This episode of NCSEA On Location is the second in a series of free podcasts focused on engaging with one of the child support program’s important contributors: employers.

This episode of NCSEA On Location comes from Alaska, California, District of Columbia, Illinois, and South Carolina. Co-hosts Pat O’Donnell and Tim Lightner introduce several guest speakers, including Corri Flores, Director of Government Affairs – Wage Garnishment, Compliance and Shared Services for ADP, Inc., and Robyn Large, Child Support Program Specialist with the Federal Office of Child Support Services (OCSS). Flores is chair of PAYO’s Government Relations Task Force (GRTF) Child Support Subcommittee.

In the podcast, Flores and Large discuss employers’ roles for withholding child support for independent contractors. They discuss what is mandated by federal and state laws regarding new hire reporting, income withholding orders, and National Medical Support Notices. They also discuss what employers should do with a verification of employment for independent contractors, how to report and remit payments, and some best practices.
