SSA Reminds Employers to Update BSO Registration

The Social Security Administration (SSA) reminded employers to check sooner rather than later to ensure they have access to their Business Services Online (BSO) accounts before filing season begins. SSA created a new tab on how to create a BSO account.

Registration Process Was Updated

SSA updated the registration process for BSO in March. The change affects users of Wage File Upload, W-2 Online, W-2c Online, AccuWage Online, and the Social Security Number Verification Service (SSNVS).

A BSO UserID and password can no longer be used to access BSO employer services. Users must have a Social Security Online account, Login.gov, or ID.me credential to gain access to BSO.

SSA also recommended that users verify their BSO password in early December before the Form W-2 reporting season. Forms W-2 must be filed with SSA by January 31, 2024.

Users who forget their passwords may have to wait up to 10 business days before receiving a new password via the U.S. mail.

Once users complete the credentialing and authentication process, the current BSO User ID will be associated with their new credentials.
