Class Is Back in Session for EIPC's 35th Year

PayrollOrg’s Educational Institutions Payroll Conference (EIPC), sponsored by Ecotime by HBS and Sprintax, returns for its 35th year to welcome back those payroll professionals who tackle payroll challenges within our nation’s colleges and universities.

The conference takes place October 15-18 at the Hyatt Regency Aurora-Denver Conference Center in Aurora, Colorado. This year’s curriculum will include topics such as innovative best practices, nonresident alien students and faculty, multi-state taxation, and more.

Exclusive Workshop Sessions

EIPC will focus on compliance and operational issues impacting payroll professionals in higher education, with specific workshops tailored for payroll and tax professionals of all experience levels employed by public or private colleges and universities across the globe.

Workshops will cover learning objectives that include the following:

  • Identifying nonresident alien student and faculty reporting requirements
  • Understanding how process improvements can advance payroll operations
  • Interpreting the IRS’s requirements for unique fringe benefits provided by colleges and universities
  • Preparing for continuous changes through business continuity, time management, and communications

Payroll professionals attending EIPC will have access to nine exclusive, live workshop sessions addressing various higher education-related topics and training over the course of the four conference days.

Some of these workshops include the following:

  • Fundamentals of Payroll in Higher Education,” presented by Glenna Bennett, CPP, Director of Payroll Services at The George Washington University, and Karen Phillips, CPP, Director of Payroll at Swarthmore College (Workshop 2, October 15)
  • How to Work With the IRS,” presented by Jeffrey Jacob, CPA, CPP, Assistant Comptroller at Illinois State University and Neatha Snyder, CPP, Payroll Director at The University of Kansas Medical Center (Workshop 8, October 17)
  • Secrets of a Successful Year-End,” presented by Shannon Kelly, CPP, Payroll Manager at Brigham Young University, and Laurel Serra, CPP, Director of Payroll Training at PayrollOrg (Workshop 9, October 18)

Attendees can earn up to 18 RCHs, 1.8 Continuing Education Units (CEUs), or 18 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits when attending this conference.

Keynote Speakers

EIPC will feature four unique general sessions with presentations from five keynote speakers that include the following:

  1. “Walk It Like You Talk It: The Practice of Growth Mindset in Education”—Carolina Caro, PCC, CSP, CDP, CDE, Trainer and Facilitator, will address the common challenges experienced in education and explore growth mindset strategies (Opening General Session, October 16).
  2. “Income Tax Treaties—A Basic Primer”—Terri Crowl, Content and Compliance Specialist at Thomson Reuters, will present a session that will provide the basics of income tax treaties for anyone who wants to be a hero to their foreign nationals (General Session, October 17).
  3. “Working with Child Support Agencies Using Electronic and Online Resources”—Tameka Walker, Employer Services Subject Matter Expert at the Office of Child Support Services Administration for Children and Families, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)(General Session, October 17).
  4. “Innovative Best Practices: Palm Beach State College, a Two-Time Prism Award Recipient”— Shavasha Barnett, Director of Payroll at Palm Beach State College, and Laurel Serra, CPP, Director of Payroll Training at PayrollOrg, offer insights as the Payroll Prism Award recipients for Overall Best Practices in 2018 and for Processes in 2022 on how their achievements have propelled continuous improvements (Closing General Session, October 18).
