IRS to Provide e-Filing Option for Forms 940, 941-X in 2024

The IRS said it will provide an electronic filing option for amended employment tax returns “sometime in 2024.” In the What’s New sections of drafts of Form 8453-EMP, e-File Declaration for Employment Tax Returns, and Form 8879-EMP, e-File Authorization for Employment Tax Returns, the agency said it expects to make available e-filing of amended employment tax returns for Forms 940, 941-X, 943-X, and 945-X as part of its Modernized e-File (MeF) program.

Both drafts have an anticipated revision date of December 2023. The IRS has not provided any other information yet.
